Communication has recently played a key role, for both organizations and individuals, while the world has been turned upside down by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Once coronavirus entered our lives everything changed, from education to workplaces and stores to daily communication. The lockdown and social distancing measures limited us to a new reality, defined largely by the screens of our digital devices. In order to stay in touch with our loved ones and with what is happening in the world, video calls and internet have played a key role. Platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet have become essential.

There is also an increase in telecommunication and social media use, with people hosting virtual parties, happy hours, meetings friends and family. Psychologists explain the increase as a result of the lack of any face-to-face social interaction.

As for business communication, companies which have already had an online environment struggled less in transitioning when compared to companies which did not have online platforms. Electronic commerce became the main way to shop and has rapidly increased their sales.

But not everything is about selling. Businesses also need to show employees and consumers empathy through communication. Those who specialize in communications know that business and governments need to communicate effectively with their customers during a global public health crisis.
